Arrow 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA CREWMAX SR5

TrackSideLive! | Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200

OUR TAKE: Acres and acres of everything are built into this big rig from Toyota, from the acres of power from the 5.7-liter V8 to the acres of interior room to the acres of refinement in ride quality and driving ease. For such a big truck, this Tundra is a highly civilized driver on the road and around town.

And if anyone should take note, it??™s Dodge, because suddenly there is a competitor out there that combines such an enormous cab option with a very potent engine in a half-ton wrapper. The Hemi-powered MegaCab doesn??™t even come close, performance-wise. We love the 5.7-liter V8 and six-speed combo in this Tundra and can??™t imagine buying the truck with any other engine.

We did notice a lot of bed shaking when the box was empty, however, but the ride improved considerably when loaded, the bed shimmying a lot less when going over bumps and such.

The dual plugs for trailer wiring (both four- and seven-pin) are a nice feature and make it easy to tow a variety of trailers without the need for adapters, but we had a small issue with the trailer hitch itself. Toyota built the receiver with extra-thick steel, making it difficult to put the insert in using a normal-legth pin, a little oddity that might go undetected until the first time you??™re trying to tow the boat to the lake.

We really appreciate the fact that each Tundra we??™ve sampled has come with a backup camera but no navigation system. Not everyone who needs to tow wants to drop a few thousand dollars on a complete nav system when what??™s wanted is the backup camera.

The above article is a brief review of a vehicle in the AutoWeek test fleet.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans was everything I thought it would be, spectacle, good racing, rabid fans, and then some....
