Name:Maureen Silos
Location:Suriname, Commewijne, Alkmaar
Vehicle:Nissan Mistral
Year:1999
Modification:None
Problems:The car shuts down unexpectedly while driving slowly. Especially at stoplights and in traffic. When I accelerate the engine just shuts down. When I start the car it starts again and I can drive away. But this unexpected stopping is dangerous because I already had two near accidents because other driver's were not expecting me to just stop.

Mechanic put a small electrical pump on the diesel filter which did not solve the problem. He then replaced the turbo motor which did not solve the problem. Another mechanic finally suggested that maybe the fuel tank is the problem. A scan today showed that the 'governor' in the fuel tank is not working properly. This mechanic suggested that I buy a new car because the repairs will be too expensive.

I do not agree that I should buy a new car. My car drives okay, no other problems except for the sudden death. Engine sounds okay when I drive continuously, it is only when I slow down I can hear the engine changing to a 'deeper' sound and sometimes this sound is followed by 'engine death'. Sometimes, while driving on the highway for a while, the engine starts to 'stutter', but then returns to normal.

Do you think that changing the 'governor' will solve the problem? I am scared to drive my car now. I love my car.
Thank you.

Maureen
