Arrow Al-Futtaim Motors launches new Toyota Corolla

Al-Futtaim Motors launches new Toyota Corolla

Toyota Motor Corp unveiled the fully-remodeled 2009 version of the Corolla Matrix at the 2007 SEMA Show, an automotive specialty products trade event in the US.

It is to be the second-generation model of Corolla Matrix, a five-seater hatchback intended exclusively for the North American market. It employs a sporty exterior design like a coupe with a center of gravity lower than that of the existing models. It has an enhanced driving performance and superior interior functionality. It is slated for launch in February 2008.

The powertrain comes in two types: a 1.8-liter I4 engine equipped with Dual VVT-i having a variable timing mechanism on both intake and exhaust sides and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine equipped with VVT-i having a variable valve timing mechanism. The 1.8-liter engine has the maximum output and torque of 98kW (132hp)/6,000rpm and 174Nm/4,400rpm, respectively.

It is mated either to a five-speed manual transmission (MT) or a four-speed automatic transmission (AT). The fuel consumption of the 5MT model is 11.1km/L (in urban mode) and 13.6km/L (in high-speed mode). The AT model is 10.6km/L and 13.2km/L, respectively.

The 2.4-liter engine has a maximum output and torque of 118kW (158hp)/6,000 rpm and 220 Nm/4,000 rpm, respectively. There are three transmissions to choose from, namely the 5MT, 4AT or 5AT. The fuel consumption of the 5AT model is 8.9km/L and 12.3km/L.

The vehicle body measures 4,366-4,394 (L) x 1,765 (W) x 1,550-1,560mm (H), and the wheelbase is 2,600mm long. The car is available in three grade levels, namely Standard, S and XRS grades. The 4WD model is optionally available in the S grade. The S and XRS grades are equipped with a front spoiler having fog lights and a rear spoiler.

Because the car is designed to have a lower center of gravity, the company redesigned the seats to lower the height and thereby ensured the space above the head. A front airbag, side curtain airbags, side airbags for front seats and the ABS with the electronic brake force distribution (EBD) system are provided as the standard equipment.

The antiskid brake system with traction control system and its canceling switch are provided as the standard equipment in the XRS grade, and as the option in other grades.
