shock absorber top mount estima

i have got a knocking on my drivers side front wheel so i took it to a garage and was told i need to buy a shock absorber top mount but i dont know how to get to it on the car it not through the bonnet so i think i may have to take the dash off.
has anyone had to do this on there toyota estima????
its a 2.2td.
any advice would do thanks in advance.
