Toyota Starts to Build Camrys in Lafayette
Lafayette Subaru Plant Begins Toyota Production LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- The Subaru of Indiana plant in Lafayette begins production of Toyota Camrys today. Eventually, the factory will produce about 100,000 Camrys annually. Plant officials expect to have two shifts working on the new assembly line by November. Governor Daniels will join Toyota officials for a ceremony at the plant today. Toyota says that by building the cars at the Subaru plant, they were able to start production in about a year, rather than the three years it normally takes to build a factory from scratch. Subaru continues to produce Legacy, Outback and B9 Tribeca models at the plant. The Camry is Toyota's most popular model.
