Post news Happy New Year For Ford Focus

By the end of January, the Ford Focus was the only car to have achieved over 10,000 registrations so far in 2007.

According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, 11,152 examples have been registered, compared with 8080 for the Vauxhall Astra. The Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa are closely matched in third on 7857 and 7627 respectively.

The remaining cars in the top ten are the Ford Mondeo (4632), Volkswagen Golf (4274), Peugeot 207 (4003), Renault Megane (3485), Audi A4 (3167) and Vauxhall Vectra (3140).

The most improved sector in January is that for superminis, 18.7% up on 2006 and now accounting for a third of the market. Diesel penetration is at 39.9%, slightly below the SMMT's 39.5% forecast for the year as a whole.
