Mercedes' CL is getting an even more powerful version.

The CL 65 AMG, with the twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 found in the S 65 AMG saloon, is good for 612bhp and 612 lb-ft of torque . Top speed is limited to a mere 155mph (AMG can up this to 186mph on request) but 0-60mph comes up in about 4.5 seconds. The five-speed automatic gearbox remains.

Sales start this summer, with 40 special-edition 40th Anniversary versions offered to celebrate the 40th birthday of the AMG aftermarket tuning division, originally an independent firm but now absorbed into the DaimlerChrysler empire. These models will have diamond-quilted leather upholstery, Alcantara headlining, special liquid-metallic-effect paint and unique logos in the upholstery, as well as the AMG body kit and wheels all CL 65 AMGs get.
