On Tuesday evening, the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists voted the Honda Civic 1.8 VXi as the 2007 Car of the Year.

The Honda beat off competition from the Alfa 159 2.2 JTS, the Toyota Avensis 2.2 D-4D Exclusive, the Hyundai Accent 1.6 GLS HS, the Lexus IS250, the Ford Focus ST 3-dr, the Opel Astra GTC 1.9 CDTi and the Renault Clio 1.6 Dynamique 5-dr.

All these vehicles were launched between October 2005 and October 2006, and after an extensive testing process that lasted three days, the winner was announced to the motoring industry at a banquet at Kyalami in Johannesburg.
