DETROIT -- Toyota will use the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system in support of its Yaris nameplate, it was announced today.

The game, also named Yaris, rolls out Wednesday as the first free brand-supported video game on the Xbox video live arcade. Players can download the game from the Xbox Web site, www.xbox.com/live/, for free for a year, whereas most game are available for a couple of months at a time.

The dodger/shooter game also includes characters from previous Yaris advertising spots, and players of the game are pitted against them.

Viewers are sent to the site of an animated 15-second Yaris spot, via Saatchi s Game Daily, MTV.com, Yahoo games and several other gaming sites.

In support of the Yaris since the car was launched in April 2006, Toyota has sponsored live gaming tournaments at evo2k.com for two years running, and offered a multiplayer driving videogame inside a banner ad last year, called ???Yaris vs. Yaris.??? Toyota also sponsored a mobile phone video design competition with DigiPen Institute of Technology, a video game university in Redmond, Wash.
