2003 Toyota Probox high fule consumption problems

| General comments: | I will appreciate if help is availed. | |
| Problems: | I am a proud owner of a Probox though it has been giving me nightmares with regard to fuel consumption. Its average consumption has been about 9 kilometers per litre and a visit to various mechanics seem not to unravel the problem. I have undertaken service, changed spark plugs, changed the ATF oil, carried out sens without any fruitful results. A sensor diagnosis revealed that everything is in perfect order. My last visit to the garage, the mechanic informed me that probably the fuel filter need to be changed. One strange aspect is that when the fuel goes below the reserve tank, filling up again the tank results in a lower mileage for instance normally 10 litres will give me approximately 90 kilometres but filling after the fuel reserve tank has gone below, it will take me a distance 50 or 60 kilometres. |

| I also own a probox. try changing the air cleaner element,check tyre pressure, trying driving at 80-90km/h, can also try refill from a different petrol station. Thnks |

| Fuel consumption in probox depends on several things 1.If you load your van and operate AC spending 9km/L is normal for 1,5 engine. or fuel AC and speed above 120km/h 2.Under normal condition you can consume 11km/L upto 15 depending to the way you press padal and road condition,type of fuel. Otherwise check air filter,dont exceed km for service,and check how you press your padal,mine was consuming 10km/L but was due to air filter and service bye |

| I am aprod owner of toyata probox 1.3L . It consumes between 13.5 to 17 km/ litre depending on road, speed (economical at 80-110km/h). Servicing never exceed 200km. It has served me so well. |

| I also have Probox 1300 cc 2006 model. My consumption in the city (Lahore) is 12 Km/L while on long route, its minimum consumption is 15km/L and got consumption upto 18Km/L, 1. Please timely change engine oil and fuel and air filter. 2. Have its engine tuning timely, 3. Have speed limit below 100 Km/h, 4. Accelate politly, |

| Toyota probox & succeed do not come with the cabin air filter but they have a concealed space for installing the cabin air filter. I need to cut the space to make a door and install it. After thAt, replace the cut piece of plastic cover and taped it with strong tape. So bad |

| Please do a diagnosis called fuel trim both short and long , and voltage reading from live data of oxygen sensor by a diagnostic machine simple launch can do that bro. Ecu tries to achieve a balanced stoichiometric ratio of 14.7:1 Air to fuel mixture, if it senses so much air it will prolong injector nozzle timing hence more fuel boss, or clogged maf and oxygen sensor might also send distorted info to your ecu and react by realizing more fuel. Suggest changing plugs, AIF filter, clean maf and oxygen sensor, also check accelerator position sensor if electronic controlled throttle, clean throttle , check for air leakage /entry before maf and oxygen sensor. |
