1993 Toyota Estima Emina blue smoke on acceleration problems

Name:Colin
Location:United Kingdom, Milton Keynes
Vehicle:Toyota Estima Emina
Year:1993
General comments:Does anyone know of a reliable Estima that is for sale or does anyone know of a genuine mechanic in Milton Keynes that could sort mine out at not such a high price?
Problems:My car starts 1st time with no issues, but over the last week or two if I accelerate I get plumbs of Blue smoke from the exhaust which is embarrassing then the smoke goes once I am at speed.
I have taken the car to the garage and I have been told it is to do with an Oil leak as it is blue smoke and they think it is from the Turbo.Cost to repair is £600-£650 which in my view is uneconomical to what the car is worth, so I am driving it for now until the MOT runs out, then it will be scrapped.
Such a shame as I love my car, but it does make me wonder if this is common as once upon a time you would see a lot of these cars about, now you do not, so it is as if once they reach 100k or just over, then it is time to take them off the road, which is criminal really as the engine is fine still and it is a comfortable car to drive still, but it would fail the UK's emission test at MOT, so no choice really...... Looking on Ebay, other cars roughly the same age as mine 'k' 1993 seem to have the same issue and are being sold as spares or repair.

Blue smoke means your engine is burning oil. hence oil leak. The only way to make sure that your turbo is pushing oil from the exhaust end is to loosen the nuts that link the exhaust pipe to the exhaust end of the turbo, start the engine, rev it for a while and check if the loosened joint is leaking oil. Toyota estimas use CT9 turbo chargers or can be upgraded to CT12A which fits perfectly. You can get refurbished turbo chargers from gumtree sometimes for as low as 50 pounds. You can even fix it yourself if you got the heart. Am no mechanic but I replaced mine myself. I downloaded some videos on turbo charger replacement from you tube studied them and when I was ready, I fixed it and I have no problems at all. Its a messy job coz of oil and water but its manageable and fun.
