1996 Toyota Corona Exiv not starting` problems

Problems:when i turn the key there is alot ticking but the car is not starting.i have been told that it could be the sloenoid that fires to the starter motor is not gettin enough spark to crank the starter motor to start the engine or could be the starter motor itself.any help would be much apreciated..

It could be because of a broken timing belt.... It will not start if it is broken and when you crank it, it will be giving a very light sound because the starter motor isnt spinning the engine.. get a mechanic to check it.... it can be caused by the ball bearings on the water pump which may have become defective and so the belt gets misalligned with the pulleys thus getting scratched on the metal covers inside tearing itself to shreds... i've had that experience with the same type of car....
