Problems: | Car died 140 miles from our house. It is a 2003 9-5 linear with 79,000. Car has had issues. Turbo and gas tank replaced at 50,000 miles. Electric problems-door locks, trunk, headlights. Below is a copy of the email from the repair shop: The Saab engine turned over very hard upon first attempt to start.Loud Rapping sound from lower end of the engine, this is damage as a result of No oil pressure.Engine is pumping oil from lower sump up through the top of the assembly, a condition known as excessive blow bye.Unfortunately the root cause failure cannot be determined until the assembly is removed and disassembled. Replacement Options are limited to a Used Assembly and Short Block (lower engine block) Used Engine (76852 miles) Part :$2593.50 Labor: $1275.00 (15 Hours) Other incidentals: $225.00 (Spark, Plugs,Filters,Fluids,ETC.) Tax : $245.61 $4339.11 Bottom line is $4,339.11 repair bill. Is this car worth repairing. Body is in good condition, tires and battery new. Is it worth is to spend the money on an engine that has 76K miles. Will it be more of the same. I'm at a loss? Any advise is appreciated. | |
