2005 Opel Astra knocking sound from engine problems

General comments:I have been without my vehicle now for over a month
in and out of the garage with no joy.
whatever help you can give is appreciated
Problems:i am getting a knocking sound from the engine and not sure what the problenm is! inlet valves/stem/seals/ ring set/end&main bearings plugs/filters have been changed,
valves sent to engineers - in fact the complete engine has been overhauled - the car ran on the test run with no noise - left idling for a while - switched off when started again noise was back - i had about three mecahnics look at the car - but the problem still persists.
can you help?

if you are referring to a petrol 1.6 engine i would suggest checking the small breather pipe going from rocker cover to side of throttle body.the port where it enters the throttle body can get blocked with carbon which will leave engine slightly starved for air while idling causing a knocking sound.make sure this port is free.just pull off the pipe and feed a needle or a wire through throttle body connection.
i had very same problem with a zafira.rebuilt engine same as yourself to find knocking still existed.was disgusted when i discovered this blockage.all that work for nothing!!!
