Have you scanned the computer for error codes? It might be the speed sensors on the gearbox or the step motor if your car has CVT. First thing is to scan the computer then we move on from there. Remember to change the transmission fluid at the recommended intervals using the CORRECT/SPECIFIED fluid.

1. Check Oil color and smell. Replace
2. Does the O/D light flash.
3. Have you got a speed reading when driving? No then
replace speed sender

I can save you all time by telling you what the problem IS NOT -
It is not the top or bottom engine sensors, it is not the gearbox, not the starter (even though the hard start kills the starter), it is not any of the cooling sensors.

Still looking for the problem,.....

I also bought nissan serena pc 24 in january, but the above mentioned problem started there and then. The rave may reach even at 5 but no meaningful acceleration. It becomes dangerous on highway coz once you brake, it jerks and takes time to pick. At a slope it even reverses like a manual car instead of driving foward. How do I solvethis problen?

What if the diagnostic reads that the step motor is damaged. I changed the step motor and issue still exist, do I still need to change MAF?. Just want to know if changing the MAF does work in.

Hi I have the same problem of my Nissan Serena 2003 locally manufactured here in Philippines.

My problem is observed during cold start, when you shift the gear in D or 2 it is not moving as if it is on the Neutral, but if you wait up to maximum of 3 minutes it shift on D position.

I change my ATF and clean the strainer, and flush the transmission to clean from old and sticky ATF but it didnt do no good same situation.

I'm suspecting to jump on the Transmission Shift Solenoid Sensor (TSS), there are three type of symptom of Faulty TSS, one is Delayed Shift, No Downshift and Erratic Shift (back and port between two gears).

Will post the result later...

anyway if u still want to continual with QR20 AND SR20 NISSAN ENGINES those loosing power here is the solution

Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning

Operation Procedure
1. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch â??ONâ?? and wait at least 2 seconds.
3. Turn ignition switch â??OFFâ?? wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch â??ONâ?? and wait at least 2 seconds.
5. Turn ignition switch â??OFFâ?? wait at least 10 seconds.

Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning
Operation Procedures
1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch is â??ONâ??.
3. Turn ignition switch is â??OFFâ?? wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that the throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound.

Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)
It is better to count the time accurately with a clock.
Operation Procedures
1. Perform â??Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learningâ??.
2. Perform â??Throttle Valve Closed Position Learningâ??.
3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
4. Turn ignition switch â??OFFâ?? and wait at least 10 seconds.
5. Conform that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch â??ONâ?? and wait 3 seconds.
6. Repeat the following (steps 7a, 7b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
7a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD)
7b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the Check Engine Light (CEL) stops blinking and turned ON.
9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the CEL is ON.
10. Start engine and let it idle.
11. Wait 20 seconds.
12. Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure the idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications.

ECU Resetting Procedures
Timing is extremely critical. If it is NOT DONE within the specify time, the ECU will not reset and the Check Engine Light (CEL) will continue to remain ON. A stop watch or an analog clock with a secondâ?s needle will be useful.

Operations Procedures
1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch â??ONâ?? and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to â??OFFâ?? position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.

this is the best data and solution one can ever get from the net. remember to THANK ME FOR THIS DATA I HAVE SHARED WITH U ALL

I had the same problem for a long time. the solution is change your speed sensors, they are two, change them both, the one at the left side of the vehicle and the other one at the top. they are similar in their look but they can not replace each other. i bought them in Harare at a car breaker at US$75-00 each and that was the end of my problem. I drove the vehicle for a year without these problems again and i sold it in Dec 2015

I have a Nissan Serena (c24) for 10 years, and now I started to have the same problem.
Maintenance is ok. Oil, transmission fluid, coolant. In case of problem in the sensors and solenoid there is a recall from Nissan?
October 6, 2018, 5:55 pm  from: shadreck siyingwa
The problem starts when you put a wrong oil.the oil meant for Serena is always written on the dip stick.so everytime you are changing the gearbox oil make sure you buy the right oil, otherwise if you buy the wrong one,you will start experience such problems.also check out on the strainer,if it's gets dirty oil will always struggle to pass through as it have a membrane that filters oil, meaning the required amount of oil won't get in the gearbox.

The transmission habe been built with poor fluid cooling system there is where problem is.
I faced similar loss of power and gear lock to prevent damage when transmission fluid is overheated.
The solution is to add external transmission fluid cooler.
I had two mitsubish pajero oil cooler fixet infront of radiator so the fluid passess into them before returning to radiator and back to transmission.
All the best
