1995 Mitsubishi RVR high fuel consumption problems

Report a Problem

Name:Collet Viriri
Location:Zimbabwe, Harare East, Harare
Vehicle:Mitsubishi RVR
Year:1995
General comments:I love the take off speed. Compares very well with my South African-assembled Toyota Camry 202SEL.
Problems:A very powerful car, but consumes too much fuel, about 1l/8km considering that this is a 2000cc engine. I should be doing a minimum of 11km/litre depending with service interval. It has been tested for compression and its very good.
Is there anything that I can do to correct this problem? Please advise.
Previous car:Toyota Camry 2.2SEL

I had the same problem with my 1998 2.4l (4g64 motor). the GDI motor re-routes some of the exhaust air? back into the motor through the inlet manifold and this clogs up the manifold and throttle body with soot?. (sorry dont know the correct terminology as I'm not a mechanic) Look on Youtube, theres quite a few videos on cleaning the throttle body etc.So removed inlet manifold, placed in a bath of caustic soda overnight, cleaned throttle body, replaced new spark plugs and now power and fuel consumption greatly improved. Will upload what I could find on general specs on GDI models. Dont know if this is the same for non GDI motors though, check out first as I believe this is only applicable to GDI engines. Could also be related to other sensors around the throttle body. GDI motors should run on 98 octane fuel only
