1997 Mitsubishi Chariot bonnet release not opening problems

| Problems: | I have a flat battery in my 1997 chariot and want to charge it up , however when I pull the bonnet release the cable is not opening the catch therefore it is not popping up so I can get my fingers in to release the catch, can anyone help me please? |
