I have the same problem with ours and I think it goes into overdrive. we had the transmission serviced and trans conditioner fluid added, after that it didn't do it for 3-4 months and now it has started to do it again. It mainly happens after we come down a hill so I think it is the pressure valves sticking with varnish from old oil putting the Transmission PCM into a limp home mode. When you turn the engine off, the pressure drops off the valve and it all startes to work ok..til the next time. That is as much as I can work out.Hope it helps

I also found this repair suggestion.
The problem with power lamp is blinking is because the ECM detects low resistance in controlling position of the TPS, which makes measuring a drop of voltage through the TPS.(Throttle Position Switch)
Check if this starts to happen when the foot off the accelerator
When this happens control of the transmission connects the fourth speed - overdrive. You can drive it by making changes maualy (L, 3, D), to obtain power. You have to take off from a stop in L or you will burn the transmission out.
When reading the codes fault probably lies the code 21.
There are several options:
1. Check the connector TPS, checking who is well connected. If the connector is green looking it is because there is corrosion there, use terminal cleaner (spray can type) to clean them and if the protector boot is split, tape it up to stop moisture and dust getting in.
1. Try to give the engine ignition a little (very little) accelerator, keeping the engine at 1200 rpm for a few seconds. After releasing the accelerator If titilar (idle) power begins to try to move the screw adjustment of the minimum position of TPS quarter or half-way back, trying to climb the minimum speed. THE ECM correct setting for the engine rpm is 850rpm. This increases the minimum resistance that the ECM reads and stops titilar signal power.
2. Another possible cause is that the battery this by completing their useful life and the voltage is something less than 12V, thereby feeding TPS receives less voltage and therefore gives less reading of resistance, Try to change the battery, check the voltage at theback of the alternator and the amount at the battery when the engine is running, if it is .3volt difference run a direct 4mm wire from the power terminal at the alternator to the positive side of the battery. Make sure you have good connections. Doing this bypasses all the connectors and ensures the PCM is getting the correct voltage when the engine is running. The TPS reads small voltage drops and increases so if the voltage is not correct in the start then you have a problem.
Hope this helps.

Ramy, .

First try to clean your idle air control valve. This is a solenoid on your air intake.(IAC)

You can change the throttle position sensor if the IAC cleaning fails,

Good luck

Hi there. I also had the blinking power light problem. I also used to shift down to a lower gear as the gearbox / transmission would not shift down or up automatically. From what I understand is the flashing power light indicates that the transmission has gone into a emergency operation mode. Draining the transmission fluid and fixed that for me.

But I have a completly different problem and would like some input. I can start the car and drive for about a Mile or 2. Then an whining noise starts and the car wont drive at all. Revs climb but that is it. I can put the car in any gear, even reverse but it has no drive. Has anyone experienced this before. Any help or advice would be highly appreciated
