Problems:	major oil leak from engine. i've been advised that it is a "seal" that needs to be replaced, but I would like another opinion.

If the oil is coming out of the front or rear crankshaft area. Around the fan pulley 9 Oil on ground at the front of the engine or around the gearbox mount i would say it is a seal problem. You might be able to get a seal softener liquid you can by. not sure you can buy it in zambia. you put it in with the engine oil and it softens the seal. this is only a short term salution. if this is the problem it is not and easy job. if it is a rocker cover gasket the oil will run down the side of the engine and as the crankshaft seal usual leak under the gearbox. so be carefull to check
