1991 BMW 750IL starts on 6 cylinders problems

Problems:fires on 6 cylinders, then quickly shuts down. not sure if this is a cam sensor problem.

HI John-----these cars have two engine managment computers and one more that coordinates them and other stuff..when stepping into it and inserting key---do not start the engine realy fast.....insert key, turn to last detent before engaging starter(believe its 3rd) then look for an yellow EML light ((((right next to 2 red ones-one of which is check engine--no oil pressure light)to extinguish before going into final turn of the key(engaging the starter assy)...if you do not follow this with 12cyl the engine management goes into LIMP HOME MODE which is what you are describing...good luck with it
