Default Replacing 3SFE engine with 1AZFE engine

I own a Toyota Nadia type SU 2000 model which came with a 3sfe engine. This engine developed a problem and I was advised to replace it. I would like to replace it with the 1azfe engine which is said to be more efficient in fuel consumption. Is this possible to do so without any serious problem?
