Toyota denies battery woes delaying next Prius

Three South African referees will officiate in the 2007/08 IRB World Sevens circuit that starts in Dubai on November 30. Pro Legoete, who also officiated in the 2006/07 series, will be joined by Jaco Peyper and Joey Salmans. Legoete will referee in the Hong Kong and Adelaide tournaments, and Peyper will officiate in the tournaments at Dubai, George, Wellington and San Diego. Salmans has been appointed for the George tournament as a local referee. The 10 referees announced by the IRB include officials from Romania and Fiji.

The South African bowls team, The Proteas, won the African States Bowls championships, played at Windhoek in Namibia, proving they are still the top bowls country on the African continent. Both the men's and women's team won the overall honours when they won 6 of the possible eight gold medals and two bronze medals. Gold medal winners were the men's fours (Billy Radloff, Wayne Perry, Handr?© Marais and Clinton Roets), the men's pairs (Radloff and Perry) and men's singles (Brian Dixon). The women won gold in the fours (Lorna Trigwell, Cheryl Cox, Loraine Victor and Sylvia Burns), the trips (Trigwell, Victor and Burns) and singles played by Colleen Webb.

Tokyo - Fuji Speedway will refund a total of 350 million yen (R21 million) to spectators whose seats offered poor views of Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix, according to Japanese media. Organisers were inundated with complaints after thousands of spectators struggled to see the track due to the positioning of their seats.

New Delhi - Ace Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan and skipper Mahela Jayawardene have signed up for the new Twenty20 league in India next year, the cricket board said yesterday. The two stalwarts head a list of eight Sri Lankan players who have penned deals with the Board of Control for Cricket in India to play in the Indian Premier League , vice-president Lalit Modi said. Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Zoysa, Farveez Maharoof and Dilhara Fernando complete the elite list.
