Toyota car recall 'not a safety issue'
Toyota New Zealand says a recall of late model Camry cars is not a safety issue.
The company has recalled 6677 cars assembled between 2002 and 2006, and 43 used imports, to fix a headlight problem which could cause the headlights to flicker or go off momentarily. The company said the chance of it happening was low and there had been no reported cases in New Zealand. It said the problem was caused by corrosion in the headlight switch contact points caused by insufficient current. A company spokeswoman said today that safety was not an issue. The company urged asked owners to get their cars to a Toyota dealer "as soon as practicable" for free repairs. In Australia nearly 145,000 Camry cars were also being recalled for the same reason. The recall applied to cars assembled between June, 2002 and May, 2006. Source: Northland Independent Community |
