Help ! My Beautiful Toyota Lite Ace Van

[FONT=Comic Sans MS]I have a serious problem with my van. It overheated.I have had some work done on it and the engine is sound, but the accelerator has no power. It is as if it has become completely disengaged from the engine. My mechanic thinks this is just down to switching a button.

It's a 1990 2 lit, turbo, automatic,diesel with lots of pointless electrical nicknacks.

Does anybody out there know what I'm talking about or why this has happened? The summer is fading fast and I have lots of camping to do!
