Toyota Announces Prices for 2008 Camry and Camry Hybrid

Toyota has cut the price of the 2008 Camry Hybrid by $1000, or 3.8 percent, to $25,860. The price includes destination charges.

Toyota eliminated some standard features from the 2007 model to reach the new price. The 2007 Camry Hybrid had alloy wheels, a JBL audio system, leather steering, wheel and shift knob, and electrochromic mirror with compass and Homelink. The 2008 model features steel wheels, single-disc CD player, urethane shift knob and steering wheel, and manual day/night mirror.

While cutting the price of the Hybrid, Toyota raised the price on the standard Camry by $100 across the range, though there are no content changes in the lineup. The new pricing starts at $19,230, including destination.

It's an interesting move by the automaker to lower the price of the Camry Hybrid. It was essentially a loaded-up model, and with the price already higher due to the powertrain, it seems the automaker felt lowering its base price will help it garner more sales of the vehicle.

Toyota has pledged to eventually have a hybrid option across its U.S. model range, but with several studies showing waning interest in hybrid-powered vehicles , the wisdom of that course may be tested sooner rather than later.

1. I'm assuming you can still get all the goodies you could get on the '07 on the '08, just paying more for them. Smart move. Advertise a lower price, but then charge more for the people that actually want those options.
