France: Renault Group sales rise a combined 11.4% in July and August
 

PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Renault SA said worldwide vehicle sales under the Renault, Dacia and Renault Samsung Motors brands reached 381,663 in July-August, up 11.4 pct on the same period in 2006.

The growth was driven by non-European markets, where total sales rose 29.6 pct, compared to a 1.9 pct increase in Europe.

By brand, worldwide sales for Renault rose 9.1 pct, Dacia by 34.1 pct and Renault Samsung Motors by 12.2 pct.

In Europe, the company said it sold 228,999 units, giving it a market share of 8.6 pct. The new version of the Twingo, launched in mid-June, had sold 20,185 units by the end of August, while Dacia saw sales of its Logan vehicles jump 87.6 pct over July-August.

Within Europe, French sales rose 13.2 pct while sales in the rest of the region fell 4.3 pct.

Elsewhere, sales in the Euromed region increased 24.7 pct, including a 50.1 pct rise in Russia.

In the Americas, total sales were up 41.5 pct, including 44.2 pct growth in Brazil and a 45.8 pct rise in Argentina.

In Asia-Africa, Renault group sales increased by 27 pct, with the car maker stressing that 10,000 Logan cars have been sold in India since the brand was launched in mid-May.
