PARIS (Thomson Financial) - New car sales in France fell 2.4 pct in August from a year earlier, after surging 21 pct in July, with car manufacturers' association CCFA reporting that 111,260 new cars were registered in the month.

Sales of Peugeot (other-otc: PEUGY.PK - news - people ) group models dropped 13.4 pct to 29,600 units, and sales of Renault (other-otc: RNSDY.PK - news - people ) group models rose 2.0 pct to 24.017 cars.

The CCFA said that while the August data signalled an apparent stabilisation in the market after July's rise, August figures are normally less significant than those in other months because of a seasonal drop in activity.
