The Honda Motor Company logo. Argentina's government on Thursday gave the green light to Japanese automaker Honda to build a plant near Buenos Aires that will produce 30,000 cars a year, some for export to other Latin American countries.

Argentina's government on Thursday gave the green light to Japanese automaker Honda to build a plant near Buenos Aires that will produce 30,000 cars a year, some for export to other Latin American countries.

The economy ministry announced the authorization in a statement, saying that President Nestor Kirchner signed the decree and that construction of the factory should begin within the next six months, with completion before the end of March 2010.

Honda, which was expecting the decision, has already said it would invest 100 million dollars in the project and employ 800 workers once it was operational.

The company currently produces motorbikes in a plant south of the Argentine capital.
