Horror smash kills man, 23

A 23-YEAR-OLD man has died, two are critically ill and two have been seriously injured in a crash in Mellor.

The five men, aged between 20 and 25, from Blackburn, Whalley and Wilpshire, hit stone walls on both sides of Mellor Lane between Whinney Lane and Barker Lane three times before finally ploughing into a parked car.

The accident happened just after 5pm on Saturday.

Police said excessive' speed seemed to be the main cause of the crash.

The road was closed on Sunday afternoon as police officers cleared the vehicles and staged a reconstruction.

A 23-year-old Blackburn man, the front seat passenger, was thrown from the red Honda Civic Type R and died immediately.
