Continental OE for New Ford Mondeo and Transit SportVan

In late May, the German tyremaker revealed that a total of eight sizes have been approved by Ford, including one model featuring SSR run-flat technology. Continental??™s emergency spare wheel will also be available on some models.

Ford has given the go-ahead for five 16-inch tyres in the ContiPremiumContact range to be made available for the Mondeo as well as two tyres suitable for 17- and 18-inch rims from the ContiSportContact family of products. And, the selection of the Conti SSR run-flat (in size 235/45 R 17 97 W XL) as the eighth tyre option for the Mondeo is significant, as it marks the first time this technology has been employed on a Ford Europe product.

The tyremaker has also been given the nod to equip the upper end of the Transit range, with its low cross-section tyre size 235/45 R 18 W XL selected for OE fitment to the U.K.-built Transit SportVan. The SportVan will come equipped with 18-inch tyres from the ContiSportContact 2 range, a tyre chosen for its grip during cornering, short braking distances and ??“ for a sports tyre ?¬??“ comfortable driving characteristics.

Continental will supply its emergency ContiMobilityKit for several of the new Mondeo and Transit models. In the case of tyre failure, this system enables the driver to continue his journey after a short stop. A compressor is used to insert sealant into the tyre to close off the puncture. The car can then continue to be driven, albeit at a maximum speed of 50mph/80 km/h.
