Arrow BMW says April sales increased 3 percent

BMW AG said Tuesday demand for its 3-series convertible helped drive up April sales worldwide by 3 percent from a year ago.

The Munich-based automaker said its three brands ??” BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce ??” sold a combined 118,456 cars last month.

The company sold 8,635 of the BMW X5 last month, up 45.6 percent from 5,941 in April 2006. The X5 is produced at the Spartanburg County BMW plant.

BMW??™s 5-series sales rose nearly 1 percent to 18,254 cars, compared with 18,096 a year ago.
