High fuel consumption 1998

Date:February 3, 2010, 10:31 am
Name, Location:Denford Gaborone Botswana
Vehicle:Toyota Ipsum
Year:1998
General comments:My toyota ipsum is a very good reliable and comfortable car. I drove it 5000 km in 2 weeks and I did not have any problems
What things have gone wrong with the car:My worry is only the fuel consumption on highway. Local it spends between 9 and 9.8 km per litre and on highway between 10.3 and 10.5km/litre at a speed of 130km/hr. Is this nomal for this type of car.
Previous car:Toyota camry sv30

Just bought an Ipsum 1998 Model and I did not know its mileage is not that good. It gave me 6.7km/ltr, town running with Air Condition fulltime. I do not think its efficient. I was driving while Over-drive is OFF.

Any advice on what could be the problem or is that "normal" for IPSUM 1998 models? I also have a NISSAN II TERRANO 1998 diesel and it gives me 10kms/ltr town running and 12 ltrs on the highway when driving between 80-100km/hr.

@ Sande. For Toyota Ipsum its not normal to have such consumption even if you have air con full time. I realised that using air con or not will not affect my consumption on my ipsum. The rate is still the same 9-10km/hr in town and highway. On highway enjoy your aircon dont punish yourself the fuel consumption will not change.

Consumption for Ipsum only goes higher when you drive over 140km/hr. I realised for 450km driving at about 150km/hr I spent 50lt.

I have owned this beast for 3 years, its very reliable and cheap to maintain.
