Pajero GLS Review 1995

Date:October 27, 2005, 4:21 am
Name, Location:Deon, from Johannesburg, South
Vehicle:Mitsubishi Pajero
Year:1995
Modification:Pajero 3.5 GLS
General comments:The Pajero is known as a Montero in the US. The vehicle has 120,000 Miles with no problems at all. Feels good for another 200,000 miles. No snow, Ice etc in Africa but been across the Namib and Kalahari deserts where temperature exceeds 120 d. No overheating problems at all. Dakar rally heritage really shows. Experience has shown that use of synthetic lubricants all round is a good idea. Qualified Technicians that can work on a Mitsu not easy too find. Will replace with another Pajero in a few years time.

We have high output 3.5 DOHC V6 (250HP)so power is good. Excellent reliability, Dual Aircon in Long Wheel Base works very well in Hot African climate. Handles well at speed on dirt or paved roads. After nearly 8 years few noises and no rattles inside. Will maintain 100 mph plus all day on open highway. Mileage at 19 mpg not great but acceptable given size and weight. Tows very well, very stable. Reliability record has been fantastic-Only regular servicing and maintenance required. Replaced Battery after 6 years.
What things have gone wrong with the car:Service Parts like brake pads etc expensive when compared to Toyota, Nissan etc. Stock Tyres are useless for African Conditions. Replaced with BF goodrich All Terrain KO. Ride is hard when unladen-compared to Land Rover.
Previous car:Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Pick-up (Owned)
