Hi Anthony,

I have a Toyota Corolla XLI, 2002 vehicle. Recently the power steering light (P/S) came on (and has not come off since)and the steering became very difficult to manoveur.
These vehicles are equipped with an electric power steering (EPS or EPAS) and are not hydraulic. Hence, the problem may be an auto-electrical problem. Thus, most automobile service companies will tell you that they need to 'run a scan' but do not be fooled by this. They are referring to the On-board Diagnostic (OBD II) and not because your vehicle has the 16 pin on the dash required for connection means that your vehicle is OBD II compliant. Furthermore, most places only have the handheld scanner (as opposed to the pc based ones)which are simple code readers. In other words, they will detect the 'trouble codes' in your vehicle and from my experience some of these mechanics have no idea what trouble the codes indicates (also not all codes indicate trouble). I have been to several reputable automobile service companies such as Federal and Masterserv and they were unable to even perform the scan. Finally, I visited Chaguanas Auto Supplies and when they did the scan it returned three (3) trouble codes but they were still unsure as to what the problem was but advised that an auto electrician may need to look at it. I did some research on the codes that were returned and I am going to an auto electrician to see if he can assist. If he does solve it, I will let you know. I'm also going to contact Toyota Trinidad Limited to find out if they could help me. Hope this information helps you a bit.
