computer burn up after shop replace plug 1999

Problems:as soon as i drove away from shop it was a loud pop and the computer start smoking. the mech came out to the car and said the computer had burned up. he said they had replace # 2 plug and it started melting so he put the old one back on with no charge. the car was in the shop because of the timing belt, which he told me that i needed a plug because the car was skipping after he replace the belt
