The Mitsubishi Diamante was a car introduced in the spring of 1991 as a 1992 model. It was a rebadged Mitsubishi Magna, an Australian car. The Wagon version debuted for 1993. The 1992 to 1996 Diamantes were assembled in Nagoya, Japan. The Japanese model was initially a four-door hardtop, while a more "formal" sedan and station wagon were built in Adelaide, Australia.

The very first Diamante rolled off the assembly line on May 13, 1991 as a 1992 model.

The Diamante was redesigned for 1997. The 1997 Diamante went into production in Adelaide, Australia. The very first 1997 Diamante rolled off the assembly line on July 1, 1996.

In Australia, the four-cylinder models were usually marketed as the Mitsubishi Magna, though from 1993, there were six-cylinder Magnas also. Plusher six-cylinder models were called the Verada. New Zealand versions of the sedan originally carried the Mitsubishi V3000 badge, before the Diamante name appeared with the new generation after 1996. Magna station wagons had been sold there since the 1980s.
