Honda Concerto
The Honda Concerto was an automobile produced by the British division of the Japanese manufacturer, from 1988 to 1994. Like its predecessor, the Honda Ballade, it shared its platform with a Rover product, namely the Rover 200 and Rover 400. The Concerto was not sold in Japan, but styling and underpinnings were based on those of the Honda Domani. The Concerto was sold in both hatchback and sedan form.
Engine choices were:
- 1.4L (SOHC carb) with 88hp DIN (65kW)
- 1.5L (SOHC SPI) with 90hp DIN (66kW)
- 1.6L (SOHC MPI) with 115hp DIN (85kW)
- 1.6L (DOHC MPI) with 130hp DIN (96kW)
- 1.8 TD turbodiesel, Peugeot-engined, sold in France and Italy only.
The Concerto was sold internationally on a platform larger than the popular Civic, it also offered more features than the Civic and was more prestige market.
Honda stopped making the Concerto when its partner, Rover was taken over by BMW. Up until that point the two companies had been merged upto 20% equally with each other and had collaborated with this model and many others in both companies ranges. The Concerto's replacement, while still based on the Domani, was sold as a Civic instead, in order to avoid having two different nameplates in the lower midsize segment.
