NZ - Emma Gilmour to Rally Suzuki Swift Sport at Waitomo

New Zealands top female rally driver Emma Gilmour, is to drive a Suzuki Swift Sport in this weekends (June 23rd) Hamilton Car Club promoted, Genuine Vehicle Imports (GVI) Rally of Waitomo.

Gilmour and co-driver Glenn MacNeall will use the all Tarmac event to test one of the new 2007 (1600cc) Suzuki Swift Sport Cup cars, in bright yellow, and looking like it means business.

With the support of Paul Burborough from Winger Suzuki in Hamilton, 10 of the Suzukis will be built to compete in the 1600cc class in the Production Car Cup over the summer motor-racing series, and Gilmour will use the tarmac roads of the Waitomo Rally to make sure the racing modifications made to the cars work.

Gilmour also sees this event, and the new little front wheel drive car, as yet another step back to full rallying following a big crash in the Whangarei Hella Rally in May.

The GVI Waitomo Rally which will start from Te Kuiti at 6.15am on Saturday 23rd June is also Round 3 of the newly formed Fram North Island Rally Series. Competitors will then be tested over 180kms in eleven spectacular high speed special stages before finishing back in the town at around 4.30pm.
