Arrow Suzuki joins turtle-sign fight

An icon in Canadian environmentalism has joined the fight to save Peterborough County turtles.

Doctor David Suzuki has signed an online petition from Kids 4 Turtles.

In his comments, Dr. Suzuki tells the group, "If I was a parent there, those politicians would know they will pay a political price for such a stupid action."

Kids 4 Turtles is trying to reverse a Peterborough County Council decision to stop putting up and maintaining turtle crossing signs on country roads.

Director of public works, Chris Bradley, says the aim is to bring consistency to County road signage and to save taxpayers dollars. Public works wants to limit signage to what is mandated by the province.

Despite the decision to stop putting up the turtle crossing signs, it has agreed to allow Kids 4 Turtles to make a presentation to council at its next meeting July 4.
