LA Auto Show: 2009 Nissan Murano
The current Murano is still looking fresh, but that hasn’t stopped Nissan from building an all-new model.
Set to arrive in the UK in late 2008, the crossover SUV will be based on Nissan’s new D platform. A revised version of the current car’s 3.5-litre petrol V6 unit, developing 265bhp, will initially be offered, and it’s mated to a second-generation Xtronic CVT gearbox. Within a year, a diesel powerplant – a first for the Murano range – will follow.
Elements of the distinctive looks and aggressive stance of the original Murano remain, but there are a number of significant tweaks. Up front, a menacing new grille design is flanked by wider headlights, while integrated fog-lamps fit flush with the bumper on top-spec models. A choice of either 18 or 20-inch alloy wheels fill the flared arches. At the back, there’s a new shape to the tailgate glass and LED rear lights, which take inspiration from the items seen on the firm’s smaller Qashqai crossover model.
