Arrow Mercedes E-Class with Bluetec diesel and direct injection

Stuttgart - Mercedes is offering two new E-Class models as 'particularly economical and environmentally-friendly' vehicles, the car maker has announced.

The E 300 Bluetec, virtually identical to the E 320 Bluetec clean diesel that Mercedes launched in the United States a year ago, will now also be sold in Europe, the car maker said.

The Bluetec technology makes use of a durable NOx storage-type catalytic converter and a special SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) converter, undercutting the NOx limits of the EU5 emission standard, the car maker said.

Mercedes lists fuel consumption of the E 300 Bluetec at 7.2 to 7.5 litres of diesel fuel per 100 kilometres with a C02 emission figure of 193 g/km.

In Europe, Mercedes is offering the new E 300 Bluetec parallel with the E 320 CDI, which continues in the range and is some 1,200 euros cheaper. The basic E 300 Bluetec model sells in Germany at 50,396 euros (73,915 dollars).

At the same time Mercedes is launching the new E 350 CGI, which features second-generation direct petrol injection. Fuel consumption has been reduced by 10 per cent while the 215 kW/292 hp motor offers 20 hp more output, the car maker says. Fuel consumption is listed at an average of 8.7 litres with a C02 emission of 206 g/km. The price for the E 350 CGI is 52,598 euros (77,145 dollars).

Mercedes spokesman Frank Bracke said three Mercedes SUVs would also be offered next year in the US with Bluetec technology. By 2009 the car maker would offer Bluetec for all diesel vehicles apart from the A and B Class. ?© 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
